Construction :
Like most industrial hoses,hydraulic hose typically consists of at least three layers. These layers help maintain a consistent and reliable flow of liquid while protecting the overall assembly from breaking down as a result of wear or abrasion.
Inner Tube:
The inner tube must have some flexibility, withstand pressure, protect the wire from erosion, and be compatible with the type of fluid it carries. Commonly used compounds include synthetic rubber, thermoplastics and PTFE, sometimes called Teflon.
Reinforcement Layer:
A textile, plastic, or metal body or carcass which reinforces the structure of the hose to withstand internal and external pressures. Reinforcement is key to hydraulic hose because it ensures the hose can withstand the associated high pressures. Types of reinforcement include wire braid and wire spiral.
Wire braid reinforcement (labeled W on datasheets) typically offers more flexibility, but is much more susceptible to failure under high impulse applications.
Wire spiral reinforcement (labeled S on datasheets) typically offers more strength, but suffers from increased stiffness and the minimum bend radius. Some new spiral hose technologies overcome the inflexibility problem.
Outer Layer:
A rubber, plastic, metal, or textile.The outer layer is often weather-, oil-, or abrasion-resistant, depending upon the type of environment the hose is designed for.
